Ogni sportivo ha bisogno di un'alimentazione speciale che contenga una quantità extra di nutrienti come i carboidrati, proteine, grassi di buona qualità, vitamine e minerali, per sviluppare in modo efficace la disciplina sportiva scelta.

Prima di iniziare una dieta per uno sportivo devi conoscere il tuo IMC, che ti aiuterà e anche il tuo allenatore, a determinare esattamente quali sono le tue necessità energetiche e alimentari.
Formula sintetica:
- Calorie: si calcola quali sono le calorie basali e a queste si sommano una percentuale a seconda del tipo di sport che si pratica.
- Proteine: 1.5 gr./kg di peso. Circa il 30% delle calorie totali.
- Carboidrati: 55-60% del valore calorico totale.
- Grassi: Tra il 10-15% del valore calorico totale. Si effettua una selezione in cui si riducono i grassi saturi e si aumentano gli acidi grassi monoinsaturi e polinsaturi.
- Vitamine e Minerali: Probabilmente è necessario qualche tipo di supplemento vitaminico e minerale che dev'essere prescritto da un medico.
- Quantità di cibo raccomandato al giorno: 5
Selezione di alimenti distribuiti secondo il principio nutritivo:
- Proteine: Scegli carni magre come pesce marino, petto di pollo o carne di manzo senza grasso. L'albume dell'uovo è considerato la proteina ideale quindi la puoi consumare tutti i giorni. I legumi sono una buona fonte di proteine vegetali e possono aiutare a completare l'assunzione di carne. Le proteine le puoi completare con i latticini scremati.
- Carboidrati: è importante il consumo di frutta, verdura e cereali integrali (avena, germe di grano, lino, sesamo, farine integrali in generale, pasta, riso, ecc.) Per l'apporto di fibra che aiuta ad ottenere una riserva energetica importante per essere usata durante l'allenamento e/o gara. Nel momento della gara, se necessario, puoi consumare liquidi zuccherati con glucosio, uno zucchero di rapido assorbimento e uso da parte del muscolo.
- Grassi: Devi effettuare una selezione importante dei grassi. Devi ridurre il consumo di grassi trans e saturi come i grassi di origine animale (insaccati, salame, pancetta, formaggi duri, burro, ecc.) evita anche le salse come maionese, ketchup e merendine. Scegli alimenti e prodotti con pochi grassi,e quelli che contengono acidi grassi polinsaturi come l'omega 3 e l'omega 6, come l'olio di canola, soia, oliva, mais, lino, ecc.
- Liquidi: è molto importante una buona idratazione, bevi due o più litri di acqua al giorno, succhi di frutta e verdura. Evita l'alcool e il caffè o bibite che contengono caffeina.

- Fare un controllo medico per verificare il tuo stato di salute.
- Chiarire tutti i dubbi con le persone specializzate in materia.
